This contribution describes how Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) helps to track and trace goods transported by forklift trucks. RFID hardware components are integrated in forklift trucks and goods carriers like pallets and pallet cages. Information about handling and processing of goods can be stored locally in these goods carriers. New components, which are developed to join RFID and forklift truck's control devices are presented. Forklift trucks will be able to communicate with management assistant systems by means of RFID and WLAN. Information about handling and processing can be stored locally on the goods carriers. Vehicle sensors and the RFID reader unit are the combined to form a new event-driven approach to integrate forklift trucks as a part of management assistant systems. It is also discussed how vehicle sensors can be replaced by unsing the RFID reader as sensor.
