Poor visibility when operating industrial trucks leads to accidents and reduced efficiency. Especially when handling large loads,
fork cameras are currently the only option available for improving visibility. However, due to their installation position and
angle of view, they can only see part of the area in front of the load. The overarching goal of the research project is to investigate a novel
operator assistance system. A mobile sensor system is to be developed as an integral part of this operator assistance system.
For the first time, it will be demonstrated how mobile sensor systems can be used as part of a cooperative system to achieve enhanced environmental monitoring of manually operated industrial trucks. The primary goal is to improve visibility for the operator. This should prevent accidents, high repair costs, long downtimes, and danger to people. The secondary goal is to take over logistical functions, such as interaction with the warehouse management system, through the assistance system. Dynamic environment detection enables objects, people, and obstacles to be identified and classified in real time using detection algorithms and can therefore also be used for automated systems in the future.
