The ITA is working on several projects in the field of warehousing, as well as bulk material transportation with the focus on belt conveyor technology. The optimization of conveyor systems targets the flexibility of the material flow within warehouses and the increasing requirements caused by steadily growing transport distances.
Belt conveyor technology
Ongoing research activities deal with validation and testing of conveyor systems components, as well as the overall system performance. Therefore, the ITA also offers numerous tests as for example the determination of time strength for conveyor belt joints according DIN 22110-3. Analyzing the occurring motion resistance helps to increase the energy efficiency of conveyor systems. This includes determining the indentation rolling resistance (DIN 22123) and analyzing the idlers’ performance (DIN 22112-3). Further research topics include the optimization and development of conveyor belt joints and alternative drive concepts for conveyor systems.
