Cut resistance test rig

General information

An application-oriented test method for determining cut resistance requires simple evaluability, good reproducibility, short test times and practical loading. A testing device based on a pendulum impact tester has been developed at the ITA for this purpose. With the help of this testing device, conveyor belt samples can be stressed under defined conditions that approximate real-life kinetics.

A cutting tool equipped with force transducers is located on the measuring head of the pivoting pendulum arm. The force transducers are mounted in a tangential and radial direction to the circular arc described by the impact mechanism. The angle of rotation of the pendulum arm is measured via a potentiometer mounted on the axis of rotation. The energy of the pendulum can be adjusted via four defined different release heights and via additional masses to be attached to the measuring head. A decisive parameter for carrying out the test is the possible cutting depth of the cutting tool. It corresponds to the thickness of the cover plates to be tested and is set individually for the belt sample to be tested. In the vertical rest position, the tool thus reaches the boundary layer between the core rubber and the cover plate on the load-bearing side.
